Match Report

The end of the season is looming & we are now fighting for survival in Div E!!!

Today was all about fulfilling the fixture as best we could. These matches are very rarely enjoyable from a competitive perspective as we are asking players from our 2nd XI Div R, to go head to head with teams performing at the top of Div E. The reason we are asking our players to go through these tough days is down to the lack of availablity offered from our 1st XI players. Every player at some point will be unavailable - I'm sure you will agree that this is an obvious statement, we all have families that we love, and we all have other commitments. However, it is unacceptable in my opinion for some players to choose to commit to a team half hearted, and allow their team mates / friends to be put to the sword for 6 hours on a Saturday afternoon.

I am not just talking about the 1st XI team being impacted upon. What some 1st team players need to understand, is that if they cannot commit on a Saturday because they have decided to watch footie, or play footie or go shopping!!!! They leave a hole in the team. That hole has to be filled by a 2nd team player, as it is the leagues ruling and rightly so that all 1st XI fixtures take priority. That 2nd XI player that has moved up to the 1st XI, then leaves a hole in the 2nd team.

So we then end up with this weeks scenario:

Sat 1st XI Fighting for survival in Div E, as Lenton take 20 points & we take 1 point. Lenton also have to play Southwell, which you must assume based on their league results this season that they will achieve another 20 points. This leaves the 1st XI by my reckoning needing 38 points in 3 matches to guarantee Div E cricket in 2014.

Sat 2nd XI, completely demoralised having chased the ball for 41.3 overs before the opposition showed mercy and declared at 315 for 7. The 9 man 2nd XI were then bowled out for 65 runs.

Please please please, have a think, if the cap fits then try and make a difference.

With reference the players that stood up today and fulfilled the 2nd XI fixture to ensure that they were not removed from the league I applaud and thank you. The irony is, you have preserved the 2nd XI within the SNCL for some of the people who have let the club down and will probably enjoy playing within that Division in 2014.

It is now time to for players to see out the commitment they made in May 2013 and see the season out.

Please text both the appropriate captain and myself on 07838 363 073 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 07838 363 073 FREE  end_of_the_skype_highlighting with your availability for this weekend please. So that once again, we can try and compete at every level whilst offering as much cricket as we can to our members.
