Match Report

Another good win, this time a crushing 10 wicket victory over 8 man Lambley. We've been on the recieving end of a few of these down the years so we will enjoy this one. I won the toss (again) and bowled first, especially given that the wind had blown the covers off the pitch we were supposed to be using so at 10am I had to prepare another pitch that was a little damp.

Another good start by Luke Rees & George Butler who are proving to be an excellent opening pair, but they went really without reward, Luke picking up the 1 wicket. George Butler is going to be a quality cricketer, and there will be plenty more days where he'll get his rewards. I must just say how nice it was to have Andy Gordon back in the side, and he hasnt lost any of his bowling touch. He took 1 wicket, but in truth he was too good for anything Lambley had to offer so most of his 4 overs went unrewarded.

Enter Ed 'Barnes-Wallace' Akers. Those who know me well enough know what any milestone or personal achievment for Fiskerton CC means to me, so to get a 5 wicket haul (no matter how it came) was a lovely feeling.

This may well be the luckiest 5 for anyones ever had, 2 double bouncing yorkers, 1 catch at slip by Grog, 1 caught by Andy Gordon (his first catch since tooth gate) and one that was slow enough that their Captain played about 5 shots before missing it and being bowled. No matter, we'd bowled them out for 32.

I felt it might be my day! So I opened with Paul Whitby needing to knock 33 off inside 8 overs to get maximum points. Between us we obliged and won in 5.1 overs. Whitby finishing on 5, myself on 21. I did mention to Paul that this was his first (and probably last) opportunity to knock off the winning runs!

Whats pleased me the most about the last 2 weeks though, putting the wins to one side, is the team spirit we've had. Plenty of banter and good humour, but everyone pulling together to play to the best of thier ability. Our fielding has also been very good with, as yet, no dropped catches! Thats all i can ask for really, the wins are a massive bonus.

I was always told a Captain should'nt give himself MOTM, but i disagree! However i will also take Capt Calamity for the best 5-fer the world has ever seen........
