Match Report

A third win in four matches for the Saturday 2s which is a fantastic start to the year. I didnt think it was going to go that way at the start, when i only had 8 men for the start of the match, On a soft wicket, which hadnt been under cover through unforseen circumstances, i really wanted to bowl first, but had to bat to allow the rest to turn up!!

Batting was difficult early on as Bryan found out when a ball nipped off the same and through the gate in the second over. I fared a little better, but after getting a good start i got a ball that bounced about half an inch off the floor....perhaps Karma for those double wicket bouncers against Lambley?!

However Luke Ress & James Tamplin got to grips with the conditions and both put on a great partnership, Luke with 39 and James falling one short of this half century. A really good display in tough conditions. Andy Gordon also chipped in with 12 including a big straight 6 with a bit of the old magic. We batted 45 overs for the first time in a long time and posted 144. More than enough we felt with our bowling attack, which will pose every team in this league problems.

We were right, it was too much for Ellerslie's young team. Luke Rees taking 6 for 16, his pace and accuracy too good for the young lads, and some of the older ones. George Butler again showed his quality, going unrewarded but only went for 11 runs from 6. Wickets will come George, stick at it. A couple for Paul Orgill, one for Joe Orgill and a first wicket for Henry Burton meant we'd bowled a team out for under 60 runs for the third time this season. Fantastic.

Special Mention to Liam who litterally didnt catch ANYTHING all day when we were passing it around in the field, but then took what appeared to be an impossible catch. With the ball travelling high over his head he turned, gave chase and took a wonderful two handed catch in a full length dive, clinging on as he hit the deck. A better catch you will not see this year.

MOTM - Luke for his fine all round contribution.

Capt Calamity - No other contenders really. I forgot the match ball, got out to a stinker, forgot to take a coin for the toss, forgot my box when i went out to bat, dropped a dolly and generlaly had a great day!

I'll quite happily have a day like that every week if we keep winning matches in that fashion though! Sutton Bonnington next......PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, can i have 11 men that arrive on time!!
