Match Report

A great win for teh Saturday 2s and apart from a few dropped catches there is nothing more i could've asked for in this performance.

Reduced to 36 overs per side we Lost the toss on a damp, green track we knew we'd be asked to bat first and i have to be honest and admit with only ten men and conditions favouring bowling i thought we'd struggle. How wrong i was! Kyle Barker and Paul Whitby opened the batting and they laid a fantastic platform getting to 101 for 0 off 22 overs before the first wicket fell. Both only gave away once chance each in that time before Paul fell LBW for 35, but he had done his job. Paul has shown some good form in recent weeks with a 50 eluding him after good starts....i'm sure it'll come soon.

That gave me licence at 3 to go and open my arms and after a slightly ropey first few runs i had some fun. Kyle and I put on another 101 run partnership in the next 10 overs, during which Kyle reached his maiden 50 smashing it all over the park, which he wasnt quite sure how to celebrate. I had to remind him to rasie his bat to the cheering hoards! I was dismissed swinging away for 60 about 4 overs from the end and Kyle fell a few moments later for a fantastic 78. The next 3 batsman all made sparkling ducks and we finished 218 for 6 with George Butler 5 not out. Fantastic!

We took to the field in confident mood and although WBL battted steadily and got up to 170 they were never up with the run rate. Once again a great opening pair helped us out. Phil Gordon bowled a great spelll gonig for 23 off 9 overs and he was unlucky not to pick up a wicket or 2 with the ball moving both ways getting some grip off the pitch. As usual our strike bowler George Butler did what he does best, causing all sorts of problems for the openers and picking up a wicket. This young lad get better every time he plays.....definately one for the future. Paul Black once again bowled a good spell of off spin and i even chipped in with 9 overs that only went for 47......better then the 99 last time out! A quick mention also for Ali Polkey in his first game for the club who was aesome in the field and already possesses a great arm! Great to have him in the side.

MOTM - Kyle Barker for a great knock.

Capt Calamity - Kyle Barker for 2 dropped catches, now knowing how to celebrate a 50 and 2 overs for 23 including 7 wides!
