An outstanding performance, on a day where a win was the only result that would be acceptable.
Having won the toss, Caythorpe were put in to set the total.
After just 2 overs from Laughton, it was obvious that the tired looking wicket at Caythorpe would react in favour of slower bowling. Cue Max Danby & Jimmy Kirkham. 24 overs between them, 3 wickets a piece and only 38 runs conceded. In fact when combining Kirkham and Danby with my pies that were thrown down, we conceded only 52 runs off 30 overs.
The medium paced bowlers, were slightly more expensive going at between 4 & 5 per over, however valuable wickets were picked up.
Caythorpe limped there way to 127 for 9 off 45 overs.
Having received criticisim on Saturday for not bowling Danny Collington, the stats above I feel back up my decision. It left a very fresh Dan Collington to go in to bat.
With reference our reply, we were very strong, and I would challenge any team in Div F to have a stronger top 7. We chased the total for the loss of only 2 wickets in just 27 overs. Dan Collington and Andy Laughton found themselves being pushed up the order, some what reluctantly from our new number 3. However, Dan went on to produce a match winning knock with his favoured partner Laughton, together they put on an unbeaten 83. Last week it was a partnership of 67, so god only knows what they will knock against Lambley next week.
Congratulations lads, the team for the first time in a long time remains unchanged. So we can go out next week, and right the wrong that we experienced in Lambley a few weeks ago.
By the way, as predicted we leap frogged 2 teams as a result of Saturdays win, and claimed 6th position in the league (just 17 points behind 2nd place)
MOTM - Dan Collington, a great knock, and a flawless unbeaten half century.
Capt Calamity - Dan Collington, not for expressing his disappoint at not bowling (any captain would welcome bowlers that want to bowl, and I thoroughly understand why he was disappointed), but for not having the belief to want to go out and bat at no.3. Dan, you are a very good batsmen, and it is your time now, to just show people how good you actually are.
