Hold the Front Page - FISKERTON CC HAVE WON A MATCH!
What a difference a day makes. Having only ammased 125 the day before, the Sunday team (with 6 of the previous Saturday team playing) hammered Newark into submission. Ammasing 277 for 7 off the 40 overs there were Contributions all round from Danby (25), Willow (38 with his new wand), Sung Snr (45), Kirkham (29) & Akers (24).
Not bad for a team who Newark thought had folded before the start of the season and had attempted to poach some of our players. One of the players they tried to poach was Dan Collington, and he quickly reminded Newark why they wanted him. He was in supreme form, hitting a quick fire 79no before once again tearing the heart out of their batting order with 5 for 29, taking his weekends work to 9-41 and 91 runs. Not bad for a pikey.
There was another excellent bowling performance to mention, that of the affectionately named Dan Sung Son, aka Russell. At 14 years old he had his first go at bowling in mens cricket and bowled 5 overs for a mere 8 runs. A fantastic effort, and had Tom Reilly held a sharpe catch at Gully he would have had his first wicket. Plenty to come from this young man though, no doubt.
Newark were bowled out for not very many (80 something) but the fact was we'd won a match. Joe Cope celebrated with a Strongbow Dark Fruit, whilst James Kirkham settled for a Creme de Menthe. A very satisfying afternoon all round.
MOTM - Dan Collington (again)
Capt Calamity - Max Danby on two counts. Flip Flops with socks?! Really Max? Secondly for leaving 2 wickets before the end......but actually still being there waiting for us when we came off the pitch having won.
